Purchasing a gas detection system

A gas detection system can be built either by purchasing a gas detection controller, gas detectors and their attendant forwarding alarms or by simply using gas detectors and forwarding alarms, which are possibly connected to an existing automation system. In such cases, the forwarding alarms are controlled through the automation system.

A separate gas detection system

A separate gas detection controller has its own security system, which operates independently and does not rely on other automation solutions, but is also available with versatile fieldbus connections to the automation system, if so desired. Servicing this kind of system is easy and cost-effective, as just one service provider can handle all device maintenance and updates at the same time and maintenance is not dependent on the company’s other functions.

Settings can be changed easily and quickly. The user is able to change settings on their own or contact the device manufacturer. Using a gas detection controller also makes it possible to decentralise the system by fitting different rooms with sub-controllers, which communicate with each other via a bus cable.

If the detectors are connected directly to existing automation, maintenance must be carried out by multiple parties.

The gas detection system can be fitted with its own, separate uninterrupted power supply, which ensures that gas detection remains operational even when there is a malfunction in the automation system.   Purchasing accessories is easier and more seamless when done by a company specialising in gas detection. Detector Ltd. gas detection controllers also have the required industry certifications, which is not always the case with automation.

If you decide to purchase a separate gas detection system, there is no need for an existing system or control room. Gas detection controllers can also be decentralised by using sub-controllers connected to each other with a bus cable.

A separate gas detection controller can be connected to other automation with, among others, Profibus, Modbus or Profinet industrial fieldbus connections.

A gas detection controller is its own, independent security system, for which one party bears full responsibility. There are no interface problems in installation, and the condition of alarms and power sources can be checked as a whole.

The user gets a single, functional system, which can be put into service immediately after purchasing it.

Gas detectors in an existing automation system

If there is an existing automation system, detectors can initially be purchased at a slightly lower cost than when choosing a separate controller. On the other hand, the costs for cabling rise when detectors are placed far away from the automation. Likewise, servicing and maintenance is more expensive and difficult, as these functions require multiple parties to do the work.

A gas detection controller system is easy and cost-effective to maintain. It can be ordered on a turnkey basis, thus allowing the user to focus on their own core area of expertise and ensure a safe operating environment!
